View from the company flats.

This is the view I woke up to while at head office, not exactly plains of herding wildebeast but not bad for Wembley.

A visit to The Mothership

This week I have been at head office or 'The Mothership' as I like to call it and its been an enlightening experience, getting to see all the people that I've spoken to on the phone and understanding that they're there to help us at the 'coalface' to do our jobs. Its great to have that support. I just hope that once I get back to the branch I can keep that momentum and enthusiasm up, to be fair tho it is quite an upbeat place to work and it should be ok.

We're not in Kansas anymore.

Well, here we are then, moved house and job and getting settled in to both.
After handing in my notice it all seemed to go pretty slow, the days came and went and by the end all I wanted to do was leave.
I was still busy painting and I wanted to get off work so I could finish it off, however I didn't have any holidays left so, if I wanted to be paid, which I did, I'd have to stay until the bitter end.
Those last days felt pretty good, everyone was being very pleasant (although I don't think it was entirely cos of me because someone else had also handed their notice in and they were glad to see the back of them) which made it all the more weird, there had been so much stress but now there was none. No missed targets to be responsible for, no uncomfortable meetings with the boss and everybody wishing you well, lovely.

Summary of life

GREAT TRUTHS THAT LITTLE CHILDREN HAVE LEARNED:
1) No matter how hard you try, you can't baptize cats...
2) When your Mom is mad at your Dad, don't let her brush your hair.
3) If your sister hits you, don't hit her back. They always catch the second person.
4) Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato.
5) You can't trust dogs to watch your food...
6) Don't sneeze when someone is cutting your hair..
7) Never hold a Dust-Buster and a cat at the same time.
8) You can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk.
9) Don't wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts.
10) The best place to be when you're sad is Grandma's lap.

GREAT TRUTHS THAT ADULTS HAVE LEARNED:
1) Raising teenagers is like nailing jelly to a tree.
2) Wrinkles don't hurt.
3) Families are like fudge....mostly sweet, with a few nuts
4) Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground...
5) Laughing is good exercise. It's like jogging on the inside.
6) Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fiber, not the toy..

GREAT TRUTHS ABOUT GROWING OLD
1) Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional..
2) Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.
3) When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you're down there.
4) You're getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster.
5) It's frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions.
6) Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician
7) Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.

THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE:
1) You believe in Santa Claus.
2) You don't believe in Santa Claus.
3) You are Santa Claus.
4) You look like Santa Claus.

SUCCESS:
At age 4 success is . . . . Not piddling in your pants.
At age 12 success is . . . Having friends.
At age 17 success is . . Having a driver's license..
At age 35 success is . . . ..having money.
At age 50 success is . . . Having money..
At age 70 success is . ... . Having a drivers license.
At age 75 success is . ... . Having friends.
At age 80 success is .. . .. Not piddling in your pants.
Pass this on to someone who could use a laugh.
Always remember to forget the troubles that pass your way;
And never forget the blessings that come each day.

"What if a demon were to creep after you one night, in your loneliest loneliness, and say; 'This life which you live must be lived by you once again and innumerable times more and every pain and joy and thought and sigh must come again to you, all in the same sequence. The eternal hourglass will again and again be turned and you with it, dust of the dust!' Would you throw yourself down and gnash your teeth and curse that demon? Or would you answer, 'Never have I heard anything more divine'?"

OK, I've done it, I handed in my 1 months notice to leave my current job and I shall leave at the end of April to start at my new job the following Monday. Scary stuff.
The last post was all about change as I was apprehensive about it and all the organizing that went with it, moving home, moving area, moving job but now I'm looking forward to it, bring it on!
Proper nervous I was about telling 'em tho, daft really, I mean, what could they do?
I'll get round to telling everyone at work about it in due course, there's no need to let 'em know just yet, as soon as you let people know then they're looking forward to the next guy coming in and even tho I might still be stood in front of them I'm already old history.
So just for now, its between you and me.
It'll be strange going into work and not having to think about the future there and targets and marketing, strange but good.
So looking forward to starting at the new place tho, its right up my alley as far as work goes, its an area that interests me, this has been proven cos I've made a 25% increase in turnover on the area that I enjoy the most since last year so that proves its what I should be doing.
So, thing to do in the next few weeks,
Tidy the flat to a degree that it looks acceptable to prospective buyers, this includes painting just about everything that's fastened down and putting stuff into storage so that's its tidy.
Doesn't sound much when you put it like that, however if i think about it one could get quite overwhelmed.
Then move to a temporary place while we get it sold. Don't know how long this bit will take but it could be a while me thinks.
Righty ho, best get on with it....ttfn.

All change!

They say that there are two things that are inevitable, death and taxes, I reckon there are three things, death, taxes and change.

Change is scary because change is switching from the known to the unknown and we're all afraid of the unknown, a nutter on the bus, the under-the-bed monster, a new job...

Change is not necessarily something to be afraid of tho, change can be good and its just a question of getting used to it.

Work out what it is that's so scary and come to terms with it.

Ok, let's see if I can take my own advice...

Music I have bought recently,

Massive Attack, Heligoland,

Actually this was bought for me, read some reviews that said it was somewhat mediocre, but after having heard it a few times, its ok. A grower as they say.

Gorillaz, Plastic Beach,

Been looking forward to this one since the last one and its not disappointed one bit.

Corinne Bailey Rae, The Sea,

Another one that's been bought for me, I think she saw the look on my face when she gave it me and that I was somewhat underwhelmed as i wouldn't have bought it myself but its brilliant, well produced and her voice its top notch. She's a Leeds lass you know.

Music I have on order,

Goldfrapp, Head First,

Talk about drip feed! There has been information released on this little by little, bit by bit, keeps you interested I guess, the single is out now and is a real contrast to what has been before.

Plan B, The Defamation Of Strickland Banks,

Don't know a lot about this, but from what I've heard it should be OK

Solve this in your head,

The size of an algae doubles everyday. Knowing it will take forty days for the algae to cover the surface of the pool, how many days will it need to cover one quarter of the pool?

If its got you stupped, the answer is posted under comments.

We went to see Vampire Weekend in Manchester on Monday and I was sort of looking forward to it, I mean I love live music and we'd seen them before and they we're good then, but on this occasion I'm not so sure.

Not sure if it was the new material or the style of music that's given me reservations but it seems that they have had a lot of influence from all different types of music from all over the world and they've not only tried to put all those influences into one album, but on occasion, one song all in about what feels like 30 seconds!

Last time we saw them they were a new band with a new album and it was all very exciting, this was just more of the same and I don't feel they have developed musically, although that might be typical for new bands and solo artists, Bjork released an album, Debut, when she split from The Sugarcubes, and then her second album was called Post signifying the start and end of the type of work she had to get out of her system before she produced the album Homgenic that was 'her'.

So maybe Vampire Weekend will develop further, one to keep an eye on for the future....

Blog updating

Just been watch a programme in which they were talking about blogs and the content thereof, I haven't got it just yet.

Apparently you should write about what interests you, fair enuff, but with passion, then that passion will come across to the reader and keep 'em interested.

Then you should post images to give the reader something to look at and links to other web sites and articles of interest and relevance.

So, the next post, after this one, should be more entertaining.
------------------

January was a quiet month, but then it always is. There's the excitement of Christmas and New year then its just a drag until the end of January.

Luckily we had a night in The Wheatley Arms in Ben Rhydding to look forward to and that kept me going. A great night it was too, dinner and a few drinks with friends, then on the Sunday a trawl round Saltaire, as is customary, and something to eat in Don't tell Titus. Altogether a good weekend.

The best part about this time of year is the difference between daylight hours at the beginning of the month and at the end, January 1st, 30 seconds of daylight, February 1st, 35 seconds of daylight, it makes such a difference! Its not much but it does make you feel your heading in the right direction...
Still very cold tho.

Last night we went to see Ruby Turner in Holmfirth, a great friend got us in for nowt and what a gig!

We've been to see her before and to be honest it was a bit mediocre, but this was brilliant, I think the venue before was too big but this was smaller and more intimate and it worked very well. I feel she's a friend now instead of just a performer.

Looking forward to seeing her again, might even pay next time!

Workwise its a case of same stuff different day, although with it being the beginning of the year its all about targets and marketing and bonus earnings. Almost makes you feel excited, almost.

Friday, January 8, 2010

Brrr, its been pretty cold here this week, its been cold since before Christmas but then it is winter. Just this last week its been VERY cold tho, heating on all nite that kind of thing, and it looks like it'll be like this for another week yet!

This is exceptional for the UK, we're not used to it, if we were we'd be more prepared, but then the weathermen said that it would be a mild winter, guess they got that wrong!

Other countries manage with the cold and snow cos they get it every year, and all you get on the news is snowbound drivers and closed schools, what I guess I'm saying is stop it with the moaning and just get on with it! ITS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD!

I say that a lot these day, 'its not the end of the world', when people make a fuss over something I think, come on, get over it pal, worse things have happened at sea.

Of course its different when something happens to me, I'm like, why me!

You see double standard Mitchell, thats what they should call me.

The lying down game in Egypt

Even then a bloke was trying to charge us for taking my photo!
------------------
Anyway, my real name is, Christopher Mitchell.

I've been called loads of things in the past, children can be so cruel, but seeing as I have a chance to call myself by a name that I want, its going to be Kit.

Its short for Christopher anyway so its not that far removed from my original name.
OK I've tried twitter (kit__) and still am, but I thought I'd give this a go.

Not keen on Facebook, having spoken to others Facebook seems to drag up people from the past and i just don't need, or what, that.

So I'll do a blog and see where it takes me,

Think it'll be a good idea to keep people that I don't see regular up to date with what I'm doing.

I guess that's the whole idea!
